In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Carol Vernallis' Theory

We have used many of Carol Vernallis' ideas in our music video, from slow motion to jump cuts and unconventional camera shots. All of these techniques have kept in line with the conventions of Rap, producing an entertaining media product having visual pleasure. Because the music video is not continous and contains fragments of cutaways and short narratives to keep the viewers entertained.

Amplification
I believe our muisc video shows a combination of amplification and Illustration, for example we have added deeper meaning to the lyrics by portarying each artists story through short narratives, meaning we have used amplification to a certain extent.
Illustration
In some sections of the muisc video, illustration is apparent for example Bobby says "I need to pray more" and a short cutaway of Bobby putting his hands up in prayer is shown.

For example Brix's graveyard scene relates to his Uncle's death revealed in the lyrics.

My Story
'My story' is a song from the genre of Rap, I have chosen this as one of the main videos which has influenced the content of the music video. The song is very similar to 'The Other side', because it also contains a long narrative in the music video that is powerful using techniques such as slow motion and a well done transition all make for an interesting music video. We also intended to include a narrative into our music video, being one of the reasons we analysed 'My Story' to discover ways in which we can use slow motion and include transitions in the right places to be most effective.

'my story'
Transition
The transitions that occur in our music video were inspired by 'My Story', seamlessly switching locations by manually unfocusing the camera or moving the camera close to an object until it appears black. Below I have showed the sequences of how the transition takes place, once the camera is unfocused on the artists face making him appear blurred it dissolves revealing the other artist.

'potter payper-TBH'
We also gathered ideas from 'TBH' by Potter Payper, the base track includes the artist rapping to a psychiatrist about his problems and the pain he has suffered, we used the concept because it is a great way for our artist Bobby to express his emotions. Given that we have taken this idea from a rap song, on this occasion we have not challenged the normal conventions of rap.

SUMMARY
Throughout the process of creating our music video we have not swayed from the common conventions of rap. Because we have researched ideas from real media products presented in the previous slides belonging to the genre of rap, therefore the ideas reflect the genre.
Analysing music videos from the same genre we are not being exposed to other forms and conventions in different genres such as the pop genre which tend to use bright colours and has no clear narrative. Furthermore the mise-en-scene in our music video are used regularly in rap videos, the glass of alcohol is a conventional prop as well as the clothes worn by our artists are very casual and urban suiting the genre and allows the audience to identify the genre.
Overall our music video has not challenged the forms and conventions of rap and, in my opinion has not developed the conventions of rap. I believe that our target audience will still be able to identify our msuic video as rap, because of the frequent mise-en-scene, slow motion and jump cuts.

influences in design

Rap albums are normally very simple keeping the number of colours to a minimum and the main feature is clearly the artist. Rick Ross' album fades the neck into the background leaving viewers to only focus on the artists face, due to the black background. This would suit my digipak because they are upcoming artists, there would be no other designs to distract the audience.
The second album cover which influenced me was Wretch 32's album, the font of the artists name and album name are bold and masculine. Also the white and black theme is easy on the eyes and is easier to read.
Comparisons

Considering that the second album cover above is a rap album, the two albums closely resemble each other. I have used large bold font to grab the audiences attention, making it impossible for the audience to miss the artists name, the second album cover is virtually identical showing the strong conventions of rap album covers.
Also the album covers are very literate in there designs as the Wretch album represents the album name 'Black and White' giving Wretch a black and white effect, whereas my album cover the black and white colours symbolise 'Life and Death' the title of the album. Rap albums tend to represent the album name in the designs of albums linking the album design to the name of the album.
