What have I learnt?

PRELIM

Research and Planning

For our prelim we didn't do much planning and went straight into filming without the research. My prelim was the breakfast club and what we done was watch the opening done few notes and started filming, we didn't do in depth research and everyone in my group was still very new around the equipment and what to do. It was a slow but we managed to do it.

PRELIM

Filming skills

Everyone on in my group when we were filming my prelim was very new to the camera equipment and we had to basic skills but some people in my group weren't too good with camera work as I done media in year 9 I had more of an idea but still not everyone was confident. We faced a few problems like getting the right shot and we still weren't happy with some of our shot types in our prelim. We learnt about the basic camera shot types such as Mid shot, close up, extreme close up, wide shot. Furthermore, we learnt camera movements such as pan, tilt, tracking, zooming.

Editing Skills

My editing skills weren’t up to scratch, and it was hard to use final cut pro Kat a member of my group volunteered to do most of the editing as she enjoys it. We used to timetoast for the order of titles so we had the correct skills for title sequence.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNT

Final Piece

Research and Planning

For my final piece there was a lot of in depth planning. Before we could do anything we had to present a pitch to see if our film would work so we had to do a lot a planning preparing for teen film opening. We had to plan the mise-en-scene for example we planned the locations, costumes. Before we could start we also had to research what sound were going to use. So we know what were going to do we had we made a storyboard which we then made into an animation film. Compared to my prelim this had loads pre planning and we knew exactly what were doing and what shot types. We did do a storyboard for the prelim so we had the right skills but the framing was much better in our final piece.

Final piece

Filming skills

Our camerawork compared to prelim was much better we had loads of better shot types and we did pan shots of when the girls on are on their way to college and at different angles for example, the scene where grace jumps up out of her seat and falls to the group it is a very low angle shot. We made sure the camera was focused so we had clear and better quality shot.

Editing Skills

In editing we all had to go, we used Final Cut Pro to put together our teen film and we used jump cuts which had few problems with when were filming our prelim but now we were able to do it. I also learnt how to use to motion and how to add it into Final Cut Pro. My skills were much more developed this time as I learnt the right skills to use final cut pro making my final piece much better quality.

OVerall

I think all through this process from filming my prelim to filming our final piece. I have  learnt many skills in editing, camera work and how to work with good lighting. For example I learnt how to use Final Cut Pro and create jump cuts and match cuts. Also i know have more varied knowledge of different shot types and different camera movements such as Pan and Tilt. Compared to when i was filming my prelim my camera work skills have developed as the shots we filmed for the breakfast club weren't too good whereas in our Final Piece we have lots of different shot types.  Also i have learnt how to insert sound in our Final Piece also researching sound i learnt how to use Creative Commons and sound cloud for copyright free music.
