What's a Code Jam?
A code jam is a fun, lighthearted event where we all (try to) build something!
There are many ways to succeed and no way to fail!
We will all build around a common theme, but what you build and how you interpret the theme is up to you!
This event is open to all skill levels. You can use whatever you know and are interested in to complete the challenge
What's a Code Jam?
In a few minutes, we will all vote on a theme from a preselected list
After, you will form teams (if you wish)
You may work individually or in teams of 2-4 (2-3 recommended)
If you need help forming teams, ask a mentor!
Once we start, you will have 4 hours to build whatever is you decide to build!
What do we build?
You can build whatever you want, as long as you can relate it back to the theme
Your project can take the form of:
- A Game
- A Website
- Some Art!
- An API
- A command line tool
- A business!
- Anything you can think of!
Then What?
After the time limit is reached, everyone will demo their project!
You will have three minutes to demo, so use your time wisely!
Don't worry if you aren't done or didn't end up with what you expected, just show us what you have or explain what was intended!
"Judging"
After everyone demos their project, the judges will leave the room
The judges will discuss each project and choose which groups best meets each of the award categories
There are no overall ranking (first, second, etc) winners!
Judging
Award categories are designed to celebrate many different kinds of success, and include but are not limited to:
- How well the solution addresses the prompt
- Creativity and uniqueness of the solution
- Best Aesthetic
- Interesting or unexpected use of existing technologies
- Sheer Ridiculousness 😝
- Best design for Open Source
- Documenting your project for others to use
- Choosing an Open Source License 🤗 🙌 +1!
- Most / least efficient
- Most input received from mentors
- Vaporware award
- Best documentation for a non-existent project
- Most altruistic group

Mentors please stand up!
These are your mentors! They are here to help however they can.
Do not hesitate to ask for advice on:
- What to build
- What tools to use
- That bug you just can't squash!
- Anything else at all!
