Today: 62 / 100,000 -> 4.34 million deaths per year

 

 

Mean exposure (worldwide):
1990: 39 µg/m3

Today: 49 µg/m3

Afghanistan, Central African Republic and Guinea-Bissau --> not so high mean exposure but a lot a deaths

Reason: poor countries, lack of access to medical resources, etc.

 

Qatar and Saudi Arabia --> really high mean exposure but no many deaths

Reason: rich countries with access to medical resources, etc.

We can see that the most pollutant countries (in terms of PM2.5) are not the ones that most of us would expect.

 

The reason for this is that the 5 most PM 2.5 pollutant countries are countries with huge oil resources.
