Chapter I of Storytelling with Data
Andrea Ongomefen
Exploratory analysis is what you do to understand data and figure out what might be noteworthy and interesting
The first stage of data visualization is exploration. In order to analyze data first we need to understand who, what, and how.
While this process is lengthy at times, the best outcomes are derived from our approach to creation.
Who?
Consider your audiences while deliberating your tactics of successful communication.
What?
Consider what relevant data will best allow your audience to form a clear understanding of why they should care.
How?
Consider what mode of communication will best suit your audience and what tone you wish to set.
What background information is relevant or essential?
Who is the audience or decision maker?
What are their potential biases?
What data is available to strengthen our case?
How familiar is our audience to this data?
Where are the risks?
What would a successful outcome look like?
If you only had a limited time what to tell your audience what would you say?
Now you know the Importance of Context...
