What have you learn about the technologies from the process of constructing this product?
When constructing my magazine I had to learn to use products such as indesign. With indesgin I learnt how to produce a flatplan, I learnt certain tools that were also transferable to photoshop as they were created by the same software company, adobe. With photoshop I also learnt how to create my magazine by using tools such as earase, glow, transform, duplicate, clone, and many more. This allowed my product outcome to look slightly more sophisticated.
As I needed camera to take pictures for both my preliminary task and my media product, I was taught the skills how to control my image outcome manually. I did this by balancing my shutter speed, iso and aperture in order for an effective and sophisticated image. I also learnt how to use a tripod, this allowed me to create still images of the same angle and distance from my subject, I was also able to control the level of my camera which allowed for a straight image that would also be balanced.
when presenting my work, I had come across the online presentation prezi. Prezi allows me to easily create sophisticated slides which transform information communicated into an entertaining and fun experience. As it was a software I was unaware with I learnt to use it and was able to even embed links such as YouTube videos into the prezi.
In addition to Prezi, I also learnt how to present my work on GoogleSlides and embed it into my blog. This is quick and efficient as well as being easy to use, as it saves online I also have no fear of losing my work.
In order to produce my magazine I needed to produce a survey which would allow me to understand my target audience better. In order to conduct my survey in a more efficient fashion, I used the website SurveyMonkey. With this I learnt the importance of balanced closed as well as open questions. I also learnt that on a larger scale, corporate companies would have to also conduct surveys and realised that this is something that can be taken to a professional level as many companies need to conduct surveys in order to produce product. I also understood the frustration from anomalous results or people who have taken the survey yet have not answered truthfully or realistically as some answers I received on my SurveyMonkey results were unrealistic which I have to remove.
I believe I have improve majorly compared to my preliminary task.
When drafting my magazines my preliminary task took a lot longer to understand the composition of the magazine as I wanted the cover and contents to be pact, however in my product I understand that less is more therefore my flatplan is a lot more simple and each element has a lot more space to fill the page instead of having a lot of smaller elements forced onto the page. In addition, there were a lot of spontaneous images taken when shooting, many images could be improved if they were structured and organised which I learnt and took the skill further into my music magazine.
SCHOOL MAGAZINE
MUSIC MAGAZINE
When editing I am a lot more fast with my decisions as I also understood my theme and tone I wanted my images to set, this is because in the drafting process I planned each page which increased the time I used up to think on the spot to make decisions and the many possible outcomes I could have with my magazine which is something that I did in my preliminary task. I also thought editing the images for the music magazine was easier as I could capture the emotion with the tone of the image whereas the school magazine emotion created less impact therefore portrayed less in the images. I was also able to work a lot more effeminately as I was more familiar with the programme used to edit my images and magazine. My photography has also improved as I paid slightly more attention to detail in my product. In my preliminary task I focused on taking images to capture the moment, I also took images that portrayed the school without composition in thought. However in my media product I directed the positioning of the model, the body language and also the composition of the model in correlation to the background.
I also worked more on the masthead, the media product has its own style to the logo with the flame whereas my preliminary task was based off of a font with an outline. I was also more consistent with the colour scheme and font in the media product- as my colours were yellow, black and white. I was able to design my cover more effectually with the help of my improved flatplan. As I was also more familiar with Adobe, I was able to achieve higher skills techniques with new tools to achieve a professional looking outcome - whereas in my school magazine I was only able to use simple tooks which created simple effects. Overall there is a higher level of skill and technique present in my media product compared to my preliminary task.
I also focused more on the brand and designed the logo to accompany the brand's motive. The genre of the magazine was also something that had to have constant focus which is also what I did in the preliminary magazine task. In the school magazine the audience was students, as I am a student I didn't have much awareness as I can just ensure that the magazine topics are relatable to school. However in this magazine, it is important that I kept my audience in focus as the range of ages are 14-26 which is a larger gap compared to my school magazine. Furthermore, I focused a lot more on marketing and distribution across multiple platforms in my music magazine which is something that i didn't do in my school magazine. I focused on branding 'Younique' further across multiple social platforms such as Twitter and Instagram which are platforms that are very popular amongst my target audience. I also included a website at the bottom of the website which allows for further distribution are viewers are able to share the link to their community.
