In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media texts?  

Use

During the making of my product I tried to stick to many codes and conventions and use them .  This would make my product easy to spot and talk about regarding it's genre. I use a voice-over in order to introduce Amy my protagonist.  This is a typical convention of Romantic Comedies. I use two voiceovers in my opening sequence. The voice over greatly influences the audience on what they think about the central character in this case Amy. The convention helps us understand many important things about the character and her life which is crucial in order to learn more about the character. 

USE

I use another typical convention of Romantic comedies and that is playing romantic music in the background. The romantic music reinforces the genre and sets the happy, cheery tone all romantic comedies tend to have.  This makes the genre recognisable  to the audiences that are likely to watch it. 

Narrative structure

I use Todorov's theory of Narrative structure. However I do not fully use the theory. The theory goes like this 

  1. Equilibrium
  2. Disruption 
  3. Recognition of Disruption 
  4. Attempt to Repair Disruption 
  5. New Equilibrium 
My opening starts with Amy rehearsing her wedding walk with her soon to be husband with a voiceover telling us how she got their. I start with the equilibrium but show that in order for this equilibrium to be shown we go back to the past to see the disruption that gave her this equilibrium instead of the whole opening sequence being set in the present. I should have been more clearer about going back to the past by adding a video transition. 

Titles

In my opening scene you see the production Ident clearly this is a regular convention and found in all opening sequences regardless of genre of the film. I was able to identify this convention without any worry and make my own production ident which I could use for my film opening. This helped my product feel more complete. As well as that I use the Universal Studios Production Ident before my one is shown. I add a scene in between the two idents and than introducing mine. 

Challenge

I only challenge one convention in my romantic comedy opening is that the girl at the beginning does not get the boy she is in love with as she is left heart broken as he tells her he is in a relationship with someone else other than that I do not challenge any other conventions.
