Localization

  • Portugal is located in the southwestern part of Europe  in the Iberian Peninsula and it includes islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The Portuguese territory has a total area of ​​92,090 km ². It is bound in the north and east by Spain and in the south and west by the Atlantic Ocean, and it has two independent regions: the Azores and Madeira.
  • The country's name comes from its second largest city, Oporto, whose Latin name was Portus Cale.
  • The capital of Portugal is Lisbon.

•On April 25th in 1974 The Carnation Revolution took place (Revolução dos Cravos), a pacific revolution in which flowers were used (carnations) with a single goal: to end the dictatorship in Portugal.

Climate

•Autumn and winter are typically windy, rainy and cool, being colder in the northern and central districts of the country.

 

•However, in southern cities of Portugal, temperatures rarely fall below 0 ° C, getting to 5 ° C in most cases.
