Looking back at the preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to a full product?
Photoshop
In the preliminary task, I was not so confident starting off as I was meant to use Photoshop which was an editing software I have never used before. However, with help from the internet on how to use different tools that can help me edit different pages etc. Eventually, after grasping basics and knowledge on how to edit different aspects of images... I was more confident when I started off on my main task.
Conventions
As I was new to studying media; I did not know what the term ‘conventions’ meant. So I didn’t have a firm grasp on what to base my preliminary task magazine pages on. This was a really big hurdle for me and I really struggled to nail this aspect; however, after my preliminary task I studied conventions in depth and brought professional magazines to all my lessons to base different ideas of my main, cover and contents page on.
Human Resources
When taking photos around my school for my school magazine I did not have any shot plans. This was not good and the photos I took could have been pre planned, however I would have to pull pupils out of lessons and I didn’t feel comfortable doing this. This is the main reason why I made shot plans for my main task. This helped me massively as I could study conventions and create my own shot plans. Also, for the main task we had properly scheduled a photo shoot whereas in the preliminary task we did not have the time to do this.
Production Schedule
In my preliminary task i did not have a production schedule which made it hard for me to focus and meet my own personal deadlines. This meant that in some areas my work was crammed and rushed and in other areas it was more in depth. This is why I also succeeded much more in the main task because I knew the deadlines and did not want to fall behind.
