How did you use thriller conventions in your opening scene compared to real thriller?

Shot types

This shot is taken from the side of the main character as he walks across the screen. In this shot we made sure to use the rule of thirds, placing the main character in the centre of the screen when he stopped walking. This was to ensure that he was made the centre of attention and the audience will become aware that he has some importance throughout this opening sequence. As he walks across the screen, the audience begin to focus on him and as he gets to centre image he looks to his side -opposite the camera- this directs to them that it is a point of interest, implying something is going to happen all through the use of composition of the character on screen. This is similar to any thriller opening, it is always vital that the point of interest is centre image because it will be the main thing that the audience will focus upon and it shows the 'centre of attention'.

In relation to our thriller, The Walking Dead also made sure they used the centre of the screen as the point of interest. They placed a gap in the doors in the middle of the shot and have a hand protruding out of it. This catches the audience's attention which is why we decided to do this sort of thing with our shot of the person walking.
