The National Academies of Sciences have concluded that pain relief is a common use of medical marijuana, and that there is indeed good evidence to support this practice.
The National Academies also noted that there is evidence that cannabis can help people who have sleep problems due to sleep apnoea, fibromyalgia and chronic pain. Marijuana products also appear to be effective in calming muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, and in relieving nausea, vomiting and chemotherapy, the report said. Cannabis has also been shown to be reasonably effective in a number of other conditions for which it has been used, including neuropathic pain, fibromyalgic fibro, rheumatoid arthritis and post-traumatic stress disorder.
