my basic principles for a composter

(structure,

materials,

usability,

performances)

We only need a filter:
- It brings oxygen, prevents flies
- It lets moisture circulate

-> No airtight container

- Round shape is handy

- Adding carbon mix is a must

- Works in 'hot' or 'cold' mode (worms + mycelium + bacteria )

Filter function:
- cylinder w/ 30-40% void min.
- Any design patterns possible
but molded plastic won't provide tiny enough holes...

But upcycled fabric bags will.

polyester

Volume matters:

Less than 15 liters, it's a 'composter toy'.

- It can be taller, but not wider

(to avoid asphyxia and leaks).

32-40L is good for a 4 persons household.

'Critical mass' of 15L triggers

the heating process, which in turn reduces the volume.

The Air Draft positive feedback loop

+6 to +20 C°

temperature

increase

Bacteria need oxygen

> then heat more

> warm air uplift

> drafts clean air

> evaporates water

> brings more oxygen

etc.

Works as a low-temp cooker 40-55°C

No need for fancy accessories:

(sensors, heaters, motors, tap etc.)

Carbon mix is mandatory

(to regulate moisture)

Handtool for stirring

(to regulate oxygen)

Conclusion:

 'low-tech',

 but effective tech

We rely on natural process only

We provide a true tool against food waste

Indoor composting is a real gain in logistics
