To ensure that all of my final products are successful, I knew that I would have to think about synergy. This is the interaction and collaboration of two or more products which have been produced in order to gain a greater effect than what they would have they been produced separately. New technologies play a big role within this factor as there are various amounts of available platforms in which you can publish your content onto. Because of the volume of platforms, it means that my final products can now be made more popular as well as be shown to a wider audience than first anticipated.
My ancillary tasks are a poster and a radio advert, followed by my main product which is a tabloid newspaper. I found that the main struggle was linking my radio advert with my main product as advert, with a radio advert I cannot follow colour schemes or fonts such as the ones I have used on my poster and newspaper front cover, this is an obvious factor so I had to find other ways to link them all together. This is when I discovered that I could just link my radio advert in with the stories which I have featured on my front page of my main product, this could mean talking about the genres of the stories which are in my sidebar etc.
My work is an example of convergence, using different technologies to promote and make a newspaper. As I have previously stated, as there is a large volume of platforms I can publish my work, it leads to a larger audience seeing my work leaving it more popular than what it would have been had there been fewer technologies to promote with.
The poster which I have created for my ancillary task has provided my work with an extremely local angle, the headlines which I made individually and situated onto the page are all regarding local issues such as: “Monument Madness” “Bigg Market Battering” since these are areas of Newcastle, it gives my newspaper a local aspect. My main image used on my poster is also a very iconographic image of Newcastle so everyone will recognise where the paper features.
