Richard Dyer

Dyer states that a ''Pop performer'' and ''pop star'' are not the same thing. Pop stars have lasting significance and Brand awareness whereas a Pop performer does not.

Stars as Constructs

According to Dyer pop stars are constructed, they are artificial images despite being represented as being ''real people''.

If pop stars have a USP this helps as it therefore enables them to be copied or parodied due to it, however some representations of pop stars may be seen as metonymic.

Pop stars have an advantage over film stars in the way that their constructed image is seen to be much more consisted over a period of time, is not consisted over a period of time and is not dependent on the creative input of others.
