Post Production Questionnaire Results
Within this presentation I will compare and evaluate the results which I have been given from the paper as well as online questionnaire that I have constructed based on my ancillary task. By acquiring feedback through two mediums such as paper based and online based questionnaire I have been able to reach a wide variety of audiences which mainly fit within my audience profile (16-25). By comparing and evaluating the feedback which my audience has given me, I believe I will be allowed to acknowledge the areas which the ancillary task was successful at and why, as well as any areas for improvements that I can consider within my future projects.
Within my online survey I have gained 6 responds with 2 being female and 4 male, whereas within my paper based questionnaire I have gained feedback from a equal spread of 4 females and 4 males.Overall I believe that the feedback which I have been given has come from a varied audience (mix of male and female) which was very beneficial for me as I was allowed to gain different point of views depending on the audiences gender.
Beginning with the paper based questionnaire, the results for this question ranged between ages of 17-18, which was the same exact case for the online questionnaire. The fact that my questionnaire participants were mainly 17 or 18 years old, they have reflected the target audience which we have set for our progressive house music video which we set beforehand. The feedback which I have gained from such age group will allow me to evaluate if the codes and conventions as well as my style of work meets their expectations and catches their attention. Due to my questionnaire participants reflecting my target audience, I will consider my feedback to be of a high importance as it will reflect the opinions of my potential consumers therefore giving me an insight into how real, mainstream consumers will react to my digipak/advert.
Further into the questionnaires, I placed such question in order to acknowledge how well I have applied the recognised codes and conventions to my ancillary task from the research which I have constructed beforehand. Within my paper based questionnaire 7 out of 8 results portrayed "Progressive House" as the chosen genre whereas within my online based questionnaire all of my participants have unambiguously answered "Progressive House". I consider the results to be quite clear as all of my audience has chosen the correct answer, with the exception of one participant
which selected "Pop" as the answer. Concluding, from this question I have understood that my audience has clearly identified the Progressive House genre within my digipak and advert therefore I have made sure that my work has been effective and met the Progressive House standards that I have researched and implemented into my work.
Following from the previous question, I have specified to my audience to select the areas which reflect the genre which they have specified earlier on. Within the feedback from both; the paper based as well as online based questionnaire, "Use of vibrant colours", "Graphic Imagery" as well as "Use of Typography" have been considered the most chosen options. Within my research, I have paid a significant amount of attention towards these elements and within my construction, applied the typical codes & conventions found within these features. Within the paper based I have come across answers which selected all of the features or even included a comment such as "Definately" next to a specific feature, showing me how appealing some of the elements were to the
the audience. From the feedback which the audience has specified, I have acknowledged that my digipak and advert have been very successful due to the clear presentation of Progressive House genre through the content they included. I have found the comments that were targeted at my work really positive which has shown me the confidence the audience has fed back with.
Within my construction stages of the digipak and advert, I have taken into account the need for a clear link to be portrayed within the two mediums and the music video as this is what I have been portrayed within the necessary research. Within my ancillary task I have targeted to implement location imagery as well as a vibrant colour scheme in order to interlink it with the music video. As a result of this, I have asked my audience this question in order to see if they can clearly see the interlinking features that appear on both the digipak/advert and the music video. Within the 8 paper questionnaires I have been given 8 'Yes' answers (100%) and within the 6 online questionnaire results, I have been given 6 'Yes" answers (100%). Considering the positive answers, I have asked the respondents to elaborate on their choice where comments such as "Same locations have been captured","Colours & Imagery" as well as "The patterns you have used" could be seen. Considering the unambiguous feedback, I believe I have carried out a good job at my digipak construction as I have thoroughly thought about the features which I would include which as a result created a corporate image with the music video.
Within the earlier stages of my music video production I have specified that my target audience would mainly fit into the 16-25 year old age group therefore I have targeted a young, adrenaline fueled audience which I then have attempted to represent by the use of colour, and texture which is mainly associated with Progressive House. In order to ensure myself that the digipak and advert are targeted at the right age group I have asked the above question within the questionnaire. Considering the fact that the individuals within my feedback audience range in ages of 17 and 18 years old, they as a result fit into my target audience profile therefore allowing me to gain first-hand experience of my digipak
/advert from individuals who represent today's youth. Within my paper questionnaire 8/8 respondents have specified "Young Adults" as their answer, similar to the online based where 6/6 respondents have selected the same answer. This as a result has portrayed me with a 100% agreement within the range of individuals who have answered my questionnaire, therefore portraying to me that I have successfully targeted my digipak and advert at my set 16-25 year old target audience.
One element of my research which I have then applied further into my exploration, was the development of the 'surreal element' into my digipak/advert. I have found that most Progressive House artists have implemented a surreal mood to their work (video, digipak/advert) which I have found quite common, therefore chosen to apply it within my work. I was worried that the surreal mood was not quite clear within my work which is why I have placed such question within the questionnaire. The feedback which I have gained has been gone against my assumptions, as all of the 14 respondents specified that the surreal element was very clear due to elements such as the "Geometrical shape pattern - magical/surreal look" , "The use of colour and the artwork make it look psychedelic which is effective" or even "The "space" image overlay". I have mainly approached the surreal element by
overlaying a cloud and galaxy image on top of the background photography, as well implementing the large geometrical shape which followed Zedd's style. As a result of such positive feedback within this question, it has demonstrated to me that the surreal element is quite easily identified within my work due to a number of factors that can be picked up by visually examining the digipak/advert.
In order to test out the digipaks and adverts attractiveness and uniqueness I have asked the audience a question which would reflect a real life situation. The question has asked that if they saw the advert in public would they be persuaded onto purchasing the digipak. The results from the above question are as below: Paper questionnaire 6/8 have answered "yes" whereas 2/8 specified "maybe" as their answer. On the other hand, within my online questionnaire 5/6 have answered "Yes" with one respondent selecting "maybe". Throughout the two questionnaires which I have given out, the majority of the audience has responded by selecting the answer
"Yes" which to me specified that the advert has been eye-catchy, attractive and informative to such an extend that it has as a result successfully promoted my digipak. In my opinion I have achieved such effect by challenging some of the codes & conventions such as the implementation of the artists logo at the top of the advert. By doing so, I have challenged the typical layout for Progressive House however I have gained a much spacious design which is by far more pleasing for the eye of the end consumer.
As a way of summarising the audiences opinion based on my work I have asked them to give my digipak and advert a rating out of 10. By doing so I can easily conclude on the audiences perception of my product and whether they like it or not. Within both of my questionnaires the answers have ranged between ratings of 8-10 with a high emphasis on 9 therefore I believe that the concluding thought on my products is quite positive. After being given the questionnaires back some of the respondents have verbally replied and specified that the product is "really professional" or "really unique and has caught my full attention". I believe that these comments have significantly underlined the effort, research and thorough planning of my digipak and advert which in my opinion has been really successful as up to this stage, the feedback has been very positive.
In order to diverse my questionnaire and not only gain feedback from the audience, I have designed a question that has specified the audience to suggest any further improvements to my ancillary task. Within the 13 responds that I have been given, 3 people from the paper based questionnaire and 3 people from the online based questionnaire have specified that "No further improvements are needed". On the other hand, the rest of respondents from both
online and paper based questionnaires has specified minor improvements which I could take into account. The improvements included comments such as "Make it slightly brighter to make it even more eye-catchy" or "Make the background images a little clearer and sharper". The improvements suggested by the audience are open to interpretation and could be taken into account. I believe that the current digipak and advert have been constructed by successfully following the Progressive House codes & conventions, however not all work is perfect therefore the comments are very beneficial for me in terms of improving my work. If I had the chance to improve my digipak and advert I would definitely take into account the above comments and other feedback that has been given to me within the questionnaires as by following what my target audience has specified, I believe I would achieve a product that is tailored specifically for them and is up a professional standard.
Concluding, I believe that the feedback analysis has portrayed vital points about my digipak and advert whether they were positive or negative such as the improvements. Overall, the opinions were very positive and the audience was quite satisfied with the final outcomes which I am very pleased to hear. The analysis of the results has helped me to understand my target audiences point of view which is quite beneficial as I was given the chance to test out my product and gain valuable, real life feedback.
