Blur - Song 2

MISE EN SCENE

PERFORMANCE: The band have very high energy, with lots of movement in the video. This is seen through them jumping around a lot, getting thrown at the walls and shaking. This helps to liven up the music video and shows the audience that the artists are enjoying the music that they are performing. [Example Below Presentation]

LIGHTING: During the video low key lighting is used. This creates a darker mood for the audience, which fits into a convention of a rock music video. It also reflects the tone of the music more effectively, as the song is very loud and it would not fit with a very bright and positive video. Bright lights flashing on the performers are also used, which helps to brighten the video and add more life to it. It also helps to make the performers stand out more from the darker background.

LIP SYNCING/PERFORMANCE OF THE INSTRUMENTS: In the video the band can be seen performing the song. This makes the music video more immersive for the audience and gives them the impression that they are actually playing in the video.

MISE EN SCENE

COSTUME: In this video the band's costume is very casual, with a simple t-shirt and jeans. This coupled with their hair being unkempt gives the band the image of being rebellious and not caring.

EDITING

CUTS: When the leader singer stops singing, or an instrument stands out for a key moment in the song, the video cuts to the the band member playing the instrument. This highlights them playing, and signifies the importance to the audience. However when the singer starts again, it immediately cuts back to him. This shows the audience that he is the figurehead of the group, and is the most important, as such gets the most time in the video. [Example Below Presentation]

FAST PACED: The editing used in this video is very fast paced. This helps to speed up the video and make it more exciting for the audience.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

CLOSE UPS: A large amount of close ups are used in the video, as it is very conventional for music vidoes to do so. This is due to it allowing the audience to clearly see the performers, along with their instruments.
