Maxi Dresses

Since its birth in the 1960s, the Maxi Dress has become an essential part of a woman’s wardrobe. Its creator, high-end fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, wanted to design something that would be worn by all the fashionable people around the world. By 1968, millions were wearing it. Other designers, such as Dior, Biba, and Cardin followed his example and made the maxi dress a widespread fashion fad during the 70s.

In recent years, the maxi dress made a comeback from the 90s, where it was overtaken by shoulder pads and grunge. When it popped back into the fashion world in 2008, they were cut slightly above the ankle with a light, airy, Bohemian feel, which was different from the formal, collared 60s style.

The maxi dress is incredibly flexible, and it can be worn for both casual and formal events. Its long, elegant hemline gives its wearer the illusion of having long legs. There are many different types of maxi dresses, some of which are:

·         Off-shoulder - This maxi dress gives a peak of your beautiful shoulders while keeping your biceps and, sometimes, the rest of your arms covered.

·         V-neck - This type has two lines that drop from the shoulders and meet at the chest’s focal point. The V may end over the bust or lower.

·         Combo - A combo maxi dress features two different textures or patterns for the skirt and bodice.

·         Plunge - It’s similar to the V, but with a lower neckline in a V, U, or square.

·         Tank - A Tank maxi is shaped like a vest at the top. The neckline may either be high or dropped low.

·         High Rise - This maxi’s bodice rests above or high on the midsection. This style is popular among women with large stomachs.

·         Free-flowing - This A-line dress is streamlined and doesn’t secure at the midriff. It’s comfortable and looks heavenly on tall, slender women.

·         Strapless - This style has no sleeves at all and doesn’t attach around the shoulders.

·         Pencil - This maxi hugs the figure and doesn’t move with the breeze. To ease movement, pencil maxi dresses may be made of stretchy material or could be creased on the back or sides.

·         Wrap - Wrap maxis have a front closure that folds the fabric over the front and closes the dress on the back or the side.
