The "freaks" were a huge part of 1800's carnivals. For example, Prince Randian was born without arms or legs but could shave and paint perfectly.
The Chicago World Fair was another carnival that took place in the 1800s, 1893, to be exact. At this carnival there were games of chance, freak shows, and the first Ferris Wheel. The first Ferris Wheel was made by George Washington Gale Ferris Jr.
Carnival games began on the royal courts of the time in the Renaissance period. The shows usually went on for days, maybe weeks.
The well known Mardi Gras carnival was started in the 1800s. Full of masks and fun, it still goes on today, in Louisiana. Another carnival that started in the 1800s was the Barranquilla Carnival in Colombia, the country in South America.
Now, I'm just going to show you pictures of carnivals.
