- From this video i learnt that music is extremely important to create the tone of a trailer, for example, matching a piece of action in the trailer with a 'hit' of music to emphasise the action.
- Letting music build up to create tension then putting in a black screen creates a lot of tension, however fading to black means that the audience don't get to see what is going to happen but they have been drawn in, this potentially means they will go and see it as they want to know what happens.
It can be useful to split the trailer into stages for example:
- Stage 1; more music with voice over to introduce the film and get the pace started
- Stage 2; use music in a similar way between movement as a transitional element to prevent the trailer from seeming boring and bland. It is important to have peaks and troughs in the music so that it is not constant tension or so that when tension is supposed to be built it is more effective with a climb in the music.
- Stage 3; it is important to know that you don't have to edit to music, you can edit the music itself to fit with your ideal cuts. Adding appropriate sound effects can also have a big impact.
