The Future

Technology is increasing our abilities to shape reality.

Our lives increasingly unfold inside a Nature 2.0 of human engineered and human- and AI-authored content and experiences.

There are many things that are desirable to make such a dramatic change desirable and benefitial.

One of these things is to ensure that the best of the Humanity's Knowledge is prominent in this new world.

This is to:

  • Ensure the preservation of Humanity's intellectual heritage.
  • Foster the participation of Everyone in this Knowledge. 9 billion scientist by 2050.
  • Empower people, not only from the knowledge they learn, but by giving them the power to choose the content they consume, and the experiences they live, instead of having this power come from a centralized party with potentially missaligned motifs.
  • Propose suggested content that broadens their understanding, raises curiosity, interest, and highlights the positive role models in society.

The Present

Emerging technologies are beginning to fulfil their incredible potential, and having positive impact on people's lives.

Current software is allowing people to create content and digital products which were only possible for big corporations, if at all, a decade ago.

These technologies are being adopted very fast by industries like the entertainment and advertisement industries, because of the existing market pressures to do so.

While there are a few scientists, artists and educators striving to bring the best of humanity's knowledge to the best experiences that new and emerging media offer, we feel that there is a prominent and undesirable underrepresentation of this kind of content from the media that is beginning to shape our lives.

However, although the content found in these industries fulfils an important role in society, we feel it doesn't align with what we refer to as the "best of Humanity's Knowledge".

The current state of affairs is one where new and amazing media, like video, games, VR/AR, Web 2.0 is proliferating but mainly through content of limited value, like advertisements and cheap entertainment.

However, because of the strong appeal of this media, specially if algorithmically optimized for that appeal, most prefer to consume it.

Meanwhile, vast amounts of incredible and exciting human Knowledge lay barren in old media.

By updating this type of content to the new media, not only we will bring forth what we outlined in the Future section, but it will allow the new media to shine in new and better ways. Only from this combination of good content and medium, do the best experiences result.

Unlike most "education companies", we don't want to make "learning" more "fun".

We want to make "fun" more fun, through learning (and discovering, creating, exploring, etc).

Wikipedia has demonstrated that the wiki/collaborative format can be extremely successful at creating a comprehensive knowledge base, used by millions as their first source of contact for learning about any subject.

Wikipedia however, is currently built on rather limited media, which isn’t up to date with what the web is currently capable of (let alone what it will be capable of). We need to change this.

Collaboration is not enough.

Innovation requires individuals to be able to explore on their own.

The ability to fork and merge pieces of work is the basis of innovation in the open-source movement.

Knowledge is no different

We propose to create a new platform for the World's Knowledge

One built on the best media and technology, and not just the best content

One built for the Future
