Uncanny

The uncanny is the opposite of what is familiar. If something is uncanny, it is so mysterious, strange, or unfamiliar that it seems supernatural for example whistling in an attic.

Using Frued's theory would be effective in our trailer due to our killer having psychological problems. Having something which is slightly different gives the uncanny effect and helps separate the binary opposite of good vs evil. It also reinforces the isolation which Cain goes through.

Supernatural

Forces such as being supernatural can be seen as uncanny. Although we would enjoy incorporating this, it is not within our budget to do so. However, when we reach the editing stage, I can develop my skills by understanding effective techniques that allows the supernatural feel for example, disappearing.

Association

There are many things which can be associated with uncanny for example, death, dead bodies, zombies, spirits, ghosts and magic. One thing all of these have in common is the sense of familiar combined with the unfamiliar.

One prop we are going to use which can be seen as uncanny is a kitchen knife. Generally people are familiar with using this when creating meals however, when in the hands of an unfamiliar person for example someone in a mask the perception of the knife changes and we feel uncomfortable.
