UWI and RDH

Planning for the future

Where are we now?

  • Campus committee convened

  • Draft RDH Policy & Roadmap

  • REDCap installation + pilot

  • Developing website

  • RDH guidelines...

  • ... associated RDH training

Where do we want to be?

...in 3-5 years

  • Full-featured virtual Centre serving campus community

  • Minimal institutional support

  • Research active

  • Globally recognised centre for Caribbean data

  • A resource hub for emergency response

Data Centre and COVID-19

(Phase 1) Modelling / predictions (Mar-May 2020)

An operational Data Centre would facilitate readiness for a range of emergency scenarios

Lessons from ongoing work with COVID stakeholders:

(Phase 2) Surveillance / monitoring (Apr - ongoing)

(Phase 3) Vaccine rollout (Jan - ongoing)

All phases have had significant data-handling demands.

We have had limited data + limited RDH infrastructure

Reduced effectiveness / efficiency of UWI response

Needs have been in THREE phases

...in 5-10 years

  • Full-featured virtual Centre serving UWI community

  • Fully self-financing
  • Globally recognised centre for Caribbean data handling / analytics

Our proposal for viability

Two important steps

(2) Institutional UWI in-kind support

(1) RDH as a cost centre

Will allow continued progress after Aug 2021

We will bring in funds from different sources

Funds to be re-invested in RDH infrastructure

Facilitating (1) and (2) maximises the chance of success

eg. staff secondment
