Calisthenics is a combination of GYMNASTICS, DANCE, BALLET, DRAMA and use of APPARATUS’. Calisthenics is a team sport, which is competitive. J’adore's younger teams compete in 3 local competitions a year, one of which is a State Title. Pupils learn choreographed routines in different disciplines, similar in context to gymnastics, which are performed in costume on stage.
“Do I need to be flexible?” No of course not. There is a degree of flexibility, however it is not necessary to be flexible. Calisthenics requires an array of different skills from each team member.
Jacinta Hardy is the head coach at J’adore Calisthenics. Jacinta has been participating in Calisthenics for 23 years, and has coached for 7 years. With a vast experience in coaching Juniors, Inters and Seniors winning many state titles, local competitions and Royal South street competitions. Jacinta has taught at Dance Supastarz for the previous 8 years, teaching students from the age of 3 through to Seniors. Our calisthenics classes also have class helpers and assistants who work
closely with each team. They assist the pupils within the class, and also at

J’adore has been opened with strong affiliation with Dance Supastarz. Dance Supastarz has been running dance classes for the past 8 years in Wantirna, offering jazz, ballet, pom, tap and contemporary dance classes.
This strong affiliation is a relationship allowing students to participate in both calisthenics and or dancing. These dance classes are a fantastic stepping-stone for young dancers who would like to progress further with participating in Calisthenics. These dance classes are suitable for ages 3 to 16.
Calisthenics is more than a sport. It begins as an interest and develops into a passion. Calisthenics can influence poise, confidence, grace and strength in pupils. These skills develop naturally through years of training through Calisthenics, and last a lifetime. Through training with other team members, goals and aspirations are set to conquer, and the year is spent creating routines that are planned to entertain spectators with glitter and glam, showcasing new developed skills on stage.
Receiving your first costume for the year, completing your routines and the joy and laughter that occurs in any calisthenics class is a wonderful and uplifting moment to be apart of…but even more so is stepping out onto the stage and dancing as you have rehearsed for months, and hearing the applause and cheer from your supporting team, friends and family. Calisthenics is a wonderful community to be apart of, and we would like you to come and share with us the journey and experiences that we are so fond of.
Calisthenics pupils must wear appropriate class wear. This includes a black leotard with optional tights, leggings or dance shorts. During colder weather, we encourage pupils to wear ballet wrap arounds. Correct class wear is compulsory, to ensure the safety in gymnastics and apparatus use. You can purchase your uniform from local dance shops, as well as from all major departments stores. Calisthenics is performed bare foot. Therefore, no dance shoes are required within class and all tights worn must be footless or stirrup. Competition wear includes the J'adore Calisthenics Jacket, plain black pants; ideally dance pants or black full length leggings and black shoes. Purchasing the J'adore shirts are optional for Tines through to Juniors. Uniform order forms will be available early in the year. Our team colours are deep purple and black.
