Questions

What challenges do instructors face at the GSB?

What challenges to students face at the GSB?

What is the GSB’s "model?"

(eg: Harvard vs Yale Law)

Suggestion # 1

By focusing on current challenges, backed by data, we can align the platform with needs in 5 years or less.

Trends of today

  • Mobile
  • Wearable
  • Modular
  • Analytics
  • Responsive
  • Learner-
    driven
  • Time-
    independent
  • Content discovery
  • Pushed
  • Adaptive
  • Personalized

…but these might not be the trends of tomorrow

Suggestion # 2

An instructor-facilitated Personal Learning Environment will shape the “LMS" of the future.

What does a PLE look like?

To reiterate...

Personal
  • Course / time distinctions matter less
  • Comment and collaboration matter more
  • (Some) ownership matters less
  • Access matters more

Where is the instructor?

Assumption:
GSB instructors focus on their students -
or they wouldn’t be here!

Instructor needs?

  • LMS + CRM
  • Librarian + Instructional Designer

To reiterate...

Time
  • Focus on facilitating learning
  • Data on students readily available
  • Design and content assistance /discovery

Back-end

Brought to you by alphabet soup!
  • LTI
  • SCORM
  • LRMI
  • RSS
  • iCal
  • Jabber
  • Tin Can
  • Caliper
  • APIs

Back to trends

  • Content is everywhere (students expect this)
  • Connecting is easy
    • Technology can help students & instructors with "high touch"
  • Standards are breaking apart the monolithic LMS
    • Yet, data is still an expectation

Thanks!
