WTF is cycle time?
Cycle time is a measure of the elapsed time when work starts on an item until it’s ready for delivery: how long it takes to complete a task.
And what about Lead Time?
Time elapsed between the identification of a requirement and its fulfillment (it was introduced by Toyota, Lean manufacturing).
Some teams use Lead/Cycle time as the same concept.
Average cycle time?
Avg. cycle time =
(Sum cycle time / No. tickets)
Advantages?
- Meaningful for the customer
- Can gain insights on specific tickets, why was this ticket a problem?
- Team can gain insights of what parts of the process are a bottleneck (Refinement, Building, UAT, Release process...?)
- Gamification
- Predictability for the business (Even it can be used to predict the time a task will take).
- Leads to smaller, well defined tickets.
