Early years
He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Deborah Mathers-Briggs and Marshall Bruce Mathers. Shortly after his birth, his father abandoned the family. To twelve, Mathers and his mother moved to various towns and cities of Missouri before going to Warren, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. After acquiring a copy of the Beastie Boys album, Licensed to III was a preteen, Mathers became interested in hip hop a lot, played the way rap fan. At fourteen under the pseudonym M & M entered into a group called Bassmint Productions and released his first EP, Steppin 'Onto The Scene. Later they changed the name to Soul Intent and around 1995 they released their single called Fuckin 'Backstabber under the record label Mashin' Duck Records.
