Flattened Sun

By: Hasan and Kevin

What is the Flattened Sun?

  • The flattened sun is an optical phenomena

  • The sun looks oval and dimmer at the bottom

  • Occurs mostly in polar regions and at high altitudes

Why Does It Occur?

  • Refraction in the atmosphere creates the illusion
  • Density differences make the atmosphere similar lens

HOW DOES it occur?

  • Light rays bend towards dense atmosphere

  • Higher density is identified as high pressure and low temperatures
