in this book there are 12 districts and the capitol, every year they hold an annual hunger games and take one boy and one girl tribute from each district to fight to the death in the hunger games. Katniss Everdeen lives in district 12 with her mother and her younger sister Prim-Rose Everdeen. on the 74th hunger games they all attend the reaping as it is against the law not to. Effie Trinket, a capitol sent reaper, picks Prims name out of the bowl of names from that district. Katniss volunteers for her sister depending on her best friend Gayle to feed her family. Peeta Mellark is chosen as the boy tribute, he is the bakers son and never really mattered much to anyone but to Katnniss he was the one who gave her hope, when she was starving after her fathers death he gave her the bread that would give her determination and in these hunger games you couldnt get enough of it.
