Requirement

M&O, have recently acquired global historical vessel AIS data from Spire and require a service that includes:

  • Data cleansing and Maintenance
  • Hosting Infrastructure
  • Suitable data access methods

Current Access requirements:

  • Access by attribute, e.g. IMO, MMSI
  • Cleaned, down-sampled, hourly
  • Area query or polygon shape lookup

Proposed Infrastructure Design

5000 gzipped csv files.

Annually or when new data available

Remove spurious points e.g. on land

Partitioned tables on Postgresql database.

or

TImescaleDB (fast performance very expensive)

Timescale DB (optional)

Advanced

Standard User

Or

API commands calling geospatial functions to extract data by area, attribute and time frame, downsampled based on requirement.

Access through existing apps e.g. VesMet but potentially create a stripped down standalone tool for data extraction.

With AWS, we can build a scalable environment which incorporate the ability to perform big data analytics machine learning behind the API.

RoadMap

Currently in the process of switching to AWS.

Environment has been set up and tested.

Transition will commence following approval.

Up and running within the next 2 months.

AIS data warehouse with API calls within next 3 months.
