3D Printing Final

Matt Bodily

V1: Just a box

Version one consisted of just a box with a shelf.

The problem: It would be better under the desk.

V2: Brackets

Brackets were added to the design of the box, allowing it to hang under the desk.

The problem: What if I wanted a different box/shelf?

V3: Separated

The brackets and box are now separate, allowing for different "boxes" to be attached.

The problem: What about the brackets taking space on the top of the desk?

V4: Top Module

A top module was added. In this case, a phone stand.

The problem: it's flat

V5: Angles

The phone stand was angled to allow for seeing the screen better.

Future iterations

  • Larger modules
  • More variety
  • Adjustable height brackets

Materials and Time Used

  • Design time: 5 hours
  • Print time: 17 hours 30 minutes
  • Material type: Polyterra PLA
  • Material used: 202 grams, 4 meters
  • Material cost: $4.00
  • Additional time needed: 8 - 10 hours

Production

I propose going with injection molding and 3D printing.

Parts will remain plastic, and accuracy is important.

Marketing

This product would be focused on those working with limited space, such as those working at a desk (like myself).
