The main plot of this is that a man around his mid-20's comes out of a convenience store with a funnel and a large can of Mountain Dew. He's on the phone with his friend explaining what is wrong with his car and why he needs a funnel to solve his car troubles. He walks a long way to the car, upon reaching his car he realises that not only did he lose his car keys but also he wasn't on the phone with his friend that whole time. In a rage he throws his can of Mountain Dew and again realises that his phone call has cut off again
The main and only character on screen is the young caucasian man with long hair carrying the funnel. He is dressed in casual, thick clothing, seeing as he is in a town that has snow around the floor. He speaks with a slight american dialect and even has some common phases, such as: 'dude', 'whatever' and 'damnit'.
This storyline doesn't follow any narrative theories directly however it does contain some aspects from Todorov's Narrative Theory. It has a problem before the shortfall but that is explained by the character. Later on, near the end, the character then has a realisation of him losing his car keys. There are no further steps from Todorov's Narrative Theory that is implemented within the shortfall, so there is no restoration and re-equilibruim.
This storyline doesn't contain all the aspects of Propp's Narrative Theory however it does contain some. It has the 'hero', in this case it would be the main character, it has the 'donor', in this case it would be the shopkeeper who gives the 'hero' a funnel, and lastly it has a 'helper', which would be the person the main character is talking to. Although the 'helper' and the 'donor' are not as obvious as the 'hero', they still fit the criteria to be called the 'helper' and the 'donor'.
This story is about a man in his car who is depressed with life and wants to end it all with his handgun, suddenly two men kidnap a young girl at the end of the road and drive off in their van. Jet hesitates and quickly drives off in pursuit. Later on, he reaches a house where the van is parked. He approaches the house and sees an older gentleman and another who is middle-aged, Jet shoots both of them and enters the house. Upon entering, he sees the young girl in the kitchen looking a bit scared and then the shortfall ends.
The main character within this short film is a caucasian man within his late 20's, early 30's. He's dressed in formal business attire, except that he doesn't have a blazer. I can't really guess what his accent an dialect will be since no-one in this short film talks. However, I can guess that this is in the North of America judging by the houses near and the forests nearby.
The plot of this story does have a strong link with Todorov's Narrative Theory. It follows the steps within the theory very closely however there really isn't an equilibrium at the start due to the fact that the main character, Jet, wanted to commit suicide. Apart from that then there are direct links to the steps in the theory. There is a disruption when the kidnappers take the young girl, then the realisation from Jet.
Afterwards, restoration takes place when Jet attempts to save the girl by shooting the kidnapppers and lastly equilibrium is restored when the kidnappers are dead and the girl is saved.
Furthermore, there are some elements of Propp's Narrative Theory. The 'hero' in this short film could be identified by being Jet, the 'villains' are the kidnappers and the 'princess' can be identified as the little girl in need of help. As you can see not all of the elements within the narrative theory can be applied, but only some.
