Idea and Theory

(Pitch task No.3)

Idea No.1

As all four of us have similar taste in music and enjoyed the same song, it was easy to come up with similar ideas for the project. One of our ideas is the colour smoke; we have seen it in one of Rihhana's video clips. In her video she is running around and riding on a bike while holding the colour smoke tube.

In our music video the idea is to have colour smoke around the artist while she is performing. We would shot this in Epping forest as it should not harm other people and no one should complain. Moreover, as we don't have much budget we decided to make the colour smoke by ourselves.

Idea No.1 and No2.

This is the video where our first idea came from. However, this music clip gave us more inspiration as we watched it and we decided to include the projection scene in our music video as well. In Rihanna's clip she is standing in the corner of the room while the moving images of lighting, fields, fire and all other sort of visuals project onto the wall and artist herself.In our video we want to use a classroom with a white paper background to make some good shots of the performance. The imagery that we will project includes: racing cars, blowing up buildings, fire, police cars.

Idea No.2

These are some of the videos we will use for the projector scene when shooting our music video.

Our 3rd idea is to use black light in order to take some shots of the character performing while glowing in neon lights. This idea comes from Nicky Minaj's video. In the video her hair is glowing white and the make up also appears neon as well as the outfit. We will also try to make our characters hair and make up appear neon with the help of UV lights. We will have to borrow this from the Photography department as Media doesn't own one.

Idea No.3

With the rest of the ideas we came up ourselves by looking at the mood board and knowing what this genre is most likely to have in it. Other ideas that we chose include:

*Fill bathtub with pink and green printed money notes, as well as place some bags full of money next to it white the character is performing in the bathtub.

*We will film in Wedtfield (Stratford) car park on the top floor just before the  sunset. This will set the right mood for the genre and the location will allow us not to just to make the performance look more professional but also to take some establishing shots of the London city as we will be quite high up from the ground level.

*Other ideas such as alleyway performance and bridge shots are just the stereotype of this genre locations.

Theory

If we were to refer to Andrew Goodwin's theory on music videos we could say that our music video won't have a narrative as there's not much narrative in the lyrics themselves (it's just a play of words). However, we will try to interpret some of the narrative for example when the lyrics say something about the wealth or money we will have the bathtub scene and when it mentions girls we will have a shot of other members in our group (representing the friends of the character). This will affect the audience as they will able to at least visualise the song a little. Another thing that Andrew mentions in his theory is breaking the 4th wall, there will be parts in our music video when the main character will be lip syncing and looking straight at the camera this way engaging with audience.
