what is sensecam?

SenseCam is a wearable digital camera that is designed to take photographs passively, without user intervention, while it is being worn.

who invented sensecam?

lyndsay williams

She initiated the first prototype of SenseCam in 1999.

Patent filed in 2004. (See here)

In Oct 15th 2009, Microsoft finally liscensed sensecam.

the prototype

Built using...

Early version of SenseCam

... Analog devices accelerometer

... A PIC microcontroller

... A digital camera (could only take 64 images)

... Hand soldered in Veroboard

... Programmed in PIC assembler (in 4k of memory)

First picture taken using SenseCam

King's College, Cambridge

And was further enhanced...

...changed the camera to a fish eye lens with very wide angle (104 degrees)

...light and color sensor to trigger an image (i.e. door frame detector)

...accelerometer to capture pic when you turned around

...temperature and passive infrared detector (when a person is in front)

other people who contributed in sensecam project

  • Andrew Blake (suggested to add camera)
  • James Srinivasen (did the memory card software and other clever bits)
  • Trevor Taylor (did a lot of the early pcbs and hardware)

why it is develop?

To help persons with memory problems.
