Relevance to Interior Design

Interior Design addresses specific needs of varying clients such as the needs of mothers and babies when breastfeeding or rooming-in. the delicate nature of breastfeeding and rooming-in requires skill and knowledge that Interior Designers can apply, alongside aesthetics and sustainability while maintaining quality, efficiency, and consistency.

Because we are capable, we are also responsible to make this environment possible. At present, by educating ourselves and in the future making it happen.

Record

SM Megamall is the first mall in the country to put up a breastfeeding station in 2006

"Their lounge has been useful to me because we frequent this mall. Their seats are comfortable and amenities are okay. Having it beside the clinic is an advantage in case I need medical assistance for myself or my baby."

- Ludy Adrao, Senior Accounting Analyst, mom to Lyka, 9 years old and John Louie, 3 years old

"In all fairness, though small, the station was clean and had comfortable chairs. Will I purposefully breastfeed there though? At this stage in our breastfeeding journey, I have become more confident to breastfeed almost anywhere so I probably won't. But for new mommies who want to nurse privately, you can definitely use this place."

- Jessie, blogger

While the space provides comfortable seating and a changing table, it is rather small for a mall of its size, especially in comparison with other similarly large malls whose breastfeeding stations are considerably more spacious; and according to one mother, it was a bit cramped, literally having only two armchairs and a sink. The space appears to be clean, well-ventilated and well-lit, however it seems to be quite inaccessible (as it can only be accessed via the mall clinic) despite ensuring privacy for the mother and child.
