Key points/problems in the status quo
- In both public and private organizations, masses of (spatial) data is produced, internally or externally (via consulting)
- Data is usually stored or delivered in a static format
- Further use, refinement, iteration, revisiting and updating of data is lagging behind the possibilities enabled by current data infrastructure technologies
- Future of data management and consulting lies in dynamic data deliveries, visualizations and the interfaces enabling interactive and intuitive access to information
- Openness, "crowdsourcing" and APIs have become key factors in data infrastuctures and management
- Gaining popularity over closed-source platforms
- A prime example is the open-source spatial data infrastructure publicaly developed in Finland (led by National Land Survey), Oskari.org
