Open access (OA) is the practice of providing unrestricted access via the Internet to peer-reviewed scholarly research.
It is most commonly applied to scholarly journal articles, but it is also increasingly being provided to theses, scholarly monographs, book chapters, and entire book-
Open access comes in two degrees:
which is no-cost online access
which also includes some additional usage rights. These usage rights are often granted by the use of Creative Commons licenses.
Simply put, making material "online"
allows the public to access it.
BUT not all online materials are "open".
