Q7. WHAT HAVE I LEARNT?

THE PRELIMINARY TASK:

·         I've learnt that we should be limited in the choice of songs that we use because all though we like a certain type it has to be open to our audience, otherwise the station will pretty much be for us!

·         Also, I've learnt that I can’t be shy and closed when presenting a radio station, but open and confident so that everything is loud and clear.

·         Additionally, something else I've learnt from my preliminary task is that it cant be based on just the soft news like Kim Kardashians wardrobe and what’s in this winter, but about hard news stories and whats happening in the local community!

·         Lastly, I've learnt that I cant use the same tone of voice for everything and that for different stories I have set my tone at the right voice so it doesn't sound offensive, for instance if I was talking about death, I shouldn't necessarily sound preppy.

BLOGGING!

  • Well firstly, I'd learnt HOW TO BLOG, and how to achieve a successful blog because of the constant updating and research!

  • Also with blogging it used to be hard keeping up to date with it, because it would take so much time, but because I did this constantly, it helped with my time management and how to work with my time efficiently.

  • Blogging regularly also taught me a huge amount of information, because I would be blogging about what makes the best reporter and the 12 Ethical Standards, so this gave me more of a brief idea what a radio station does.

RESEARCH!

  • I learnt plenty of things from researching, such as how to write a lead story, or useful interview tips, these all helped with the result of producing my own radio station.

  • I also learnt from the research that there are many factors and roles to become a radio news reporter, and that you need to be constantly on the go.

  • Lastly, from researching; it helped me understand the ways in which news itself works and the different types of news there are, trust me there's plenty!

THE PRACTICAL THINGS!

  • One of the practical things I had learnt is about how to do a vox pop; this is one of the way a news reporter collects the views of public.

  • The vox pop allowed me to communicate more with members of the local community than I ever did before and this allowed me to get a reliable view from the public.

  • I also learnt that I was going to get rejected at some points, but this showed me that I shouldn't just give up that quickly, but keep on going.

  • Lastly, I learnt that there are plenty of ways to communicate and get answers such as an interview or an outside broadcast!

THERE'S NO 'I' IN TEAM!

  • Teamwork is an extremely important factor in media and I've learnt that it is incredibly important that you get along as a group, otherwise it is hard to complete tasks together.

  • I've also learnt that with a group you have to ensure that everyone has an equal amount of work, so the others aren't let down.

  • I've also learnt that you should always confer ideas together before choosing what you're going to do because that way everyone ideas can be put across & that way everyone will get their say.

NEW  SKILLS

  • New skills that I have learnt is how to use new technologies, this includes things such as audacity, garage band etc.

  • Another new skill that I have learnt is that planning is the key to being organised, and that this way everything is less stressful and more things get done.

  • All these new skills allowed me to improve my radio station because I put these new ideas in to one  and tried to develop it from the preliminary task.

Overall from this course I have learnt many things about how to improve on things, what not to do and how to be the best news reporter for a radio station. Here is a link to my blog, to show a couple more things of what I have learnt:
