Secrets of Rome
The ghost of the Emperor Nero
The legend says that a walnut tree, growing on the ashes of the Roman Emperor, was infested every night by demons which had the appearence of crows and as well as the Ghost of Emperor Nero manifested himself terrifing people who lived there.
Pope Pasquale II decided to destroy the tomb and to burn the tree throwing the ashes in the Tiber river. In the same location a tiny Chapel was built in 1099 that became the Church of S. Maria del Popolo.
