Evaluation Question 2

How effective is the combination of your main and ancillary texts?

Throughout my magazine, the web address is featured. This use of synergy demonstrates that my product can incorporate technology into its print-based platforms, which appeals to my target audience as during my research  learned that readers in the age range of 15-21 typically spend their free time and disposable income online, whether via social media, online stores or streaming sites like Netflix.

It is also featured on the billboard, which promotes interest as it gives the audience the audience the option to either conduct more research into the magazine via the website, or to consume the product through an online platform rather than a publication. It also shows that my product is modern and can provide its audience with its needs in accordance with the current trends of the Technological Age.

Both the website and the billboard promote the main text using different yet effective methods: on the billboard, the magazine's front cover is the dominant image that attracts the viewer, while the website has a large button that directs the user to a subscription page, and also features portions of articles from the magazine in order to generate more interest in the main text.

This synergy of main and ancillary texts help to integrate and promote both the technological and editorial aspects of my product and generate a recognisable brand name for the audience to consume and share.

Synergy is also created through the transference of the house style through the different platforms and tasks. For example, the colour scheme of the front cover and double-page spread remains consistent through to the billboard, which promotes the product and the subject matter of that issue by highlighting its importance. The colour scheme and font style of the contents page also features prominently in the website, as the design connotations are simple and minimalist and thus more appealing.
