EditinG

Editing was one of the most important stages of our coursework, along with filming and research.

This meant that we didn't want to waste time doing the unnecessary so that we had enough time and possible extra to get on with filming and editing.

day 1

  • Day one of editing was the first step to getting our film together which we didn't find too difficult as we had all previously used 'Final Cut Pro.'
  • First, we ensured that all the footage that we had on the memory card had been added to the video drive as we didn't want to lose it and have to re film everything.
  • We uploaded the footage onto Final Cut Pro and watched it over. By watching it over, we were analyzing our work as we found some shaky moments and some bad angles that we late decided to re shoot.
  •  There were 2 folders we made to keep our work organised. One was labelled 'actual footage' and the other labelled 'bloopers.'

DAY 1

  • When filming we deliberately shot the same scene over and over again from different angles so that when the editing process took place we had loads of different low angle shots, mid shots, close ups etc.
  • Tarun put together all those shots, cutting them were needing to create the very beginning of our opening sequence.

DAY 2

  • Day 2  was harder than day 1 as the work load began to pile up on each other. That was because we still had to film and we still had to blog and still continue editing during the process.
  • We carried on using a variety of match cuts and shots making us feel positive about the quality of our film opening so far.
  • At this point we really needed to speed up on editing to make the deadline and we hadn't even included sound and sound effects yet and that needed to be done... quickly!
  • To be somewhat different, we made out film black and white going with the horror kind of idea.

DAY 2

  • Tarun had proven to be quickest at editing and clearly felt most comfortable with it. It would've been wasting time if 3 people were sat at a computer with 1 mouse editing.
  • To use our time successfully Kris and I split two tasks between us.
  • Kris looked for music as she knew more about rock music and I looked for inspiration for Idents for Production and Distribution as we were not allowed to use one from a real company.
  • By doing so, we saved a lot of editing time which gave us enough time to look back at our work and change any imperfections.

DAY 3

  • This was our most difficult day. We were down a member and there was a lot to do so Kris and I had to not only distribute the editing between us but distribute create the ident and add titles.
  • This was a day in which we were mainly fixing problems we had noticed prior to day 3 of editing.
  • Kris and I came to the conclusion the transition that worked well with the look of our film opening was cross fades. So we used them throughout, where necessary.
  • In the time we had left of this session, we started doing idents and  adding some titles.

day 3

  • Editing sound was really hard as we wanted it to fit as much as we could. But finding the right bits to cut and match together was one of our biggest difficulties.
  • When speaking to friends in other groups they said that creating an ident required a lot of time, especially if we wanted it to look professional and really good.
  • So we took in the advice and spent quite a bit of time on it using 'Motion'. This was recommended to us by all teacher and technicians in the media department.
  • Although it took time, the look of our ident is what we had pictured and motion helped us create that vision.

OVERALL

  1. DAY 1: Was our favorite stage of editing as we had a lot of time and at this stage, we weren't too worried about deadlines and little errors. We added the footage to the video drive.
  2. DAY 2: The stress became apparent as the deadline was getting closer, we had established which parts we were best at got on with the tasks to save more time. At this point, I think we were organised.
  3. DAY 3: We spent hours and hours of our time from 1:00 to 4:35 to make sure we were on schedule and everything we needed to be on the video drive and on Final Cut Pro was there and and ident was created.
