Overview

1. Self-reported data collected through questionnaires, surveys, interviews, Likert scale studies, MPPUS etc in psychology, sociology and behavioural studies.

2. validity of these research methods fall short when studying in the context of wellbeing, mental health and usage of hyper personal devices.

Research Question

How well can family members estimate each others’ leisure and work time on digital devices and what factors affect the closeness of these estimates and objective data?

Research Design

1. how can be we objectively study the difference between self-reported screen time and logged screen time data.

2. how can be better study this in the context of families, where the relationship between family members and digital devices is quite complex and often shared between family members.

3. can we find out what factors affect the closeness of the screen time estimates.

Comparing screen time data

1. Capture screen time data using cross platform app, along with app level breakdown of usage.

2. self-reported data from an in-device survey

Survey on numerical scale, with following questions 

1. For how many hours does [member x] use his/her smartphone in a day?
2. What time of the day is usually his/her peak usage? (response type TBD)
3. What does [member x] use her smartphone mostly for? (work or leisure)
