Figure skater Kim Yoo-sung (14-Pyeongchonjoong) nailed a triple axel in her debut at a major international competition to win a silver medal.

Kim set new personal bests in both the short program (63.04 points) and free skate (126.88 points) to finish second in the women's singles competition with a total score of 189.92 points at the first ISU Junior Grand Prix of the 2023-24 season on Friday in Bangkok, Thailand. Ami Nakai (15-Japan) won the gold medal with a total score of 190.65. Han Hee-soo (15-Sunil Girls' Middle School) 토토 won the bronze medal with a total of 173.99 points.

Kim Yoo-sung had an impressive performance at the event, completing a triple axel that included three and a half turns in the air after a forward jump. She is the third Korean female single athlete to land a triple axel at an international competition, joining Yoo Young (19) and Kim Yoo-jae (14). Kim Yoo-jae is Kim Yoo-sung's twin sister, who also landed a triple axel in her Junior Grand Prix debut at last year's inaugural event, winning a bronze medal. "I'm happy that I was able to execute the triple axel and win the silver medal," Kim said after the competition. "I think I did a little better than (twin sister) Yoo Jae," she laughed.

The team of Kim Ji-ni (16) and Inamu (16+ Gyeonggi Ice Sports Federation) finished third in the ice dance on Saturday with a total score of 139.32 points. 스포츠토토링크
