The Enigma
The enigma used in Scream is the Ghost Face mask. This leaves the audience with the question who is Ghost Face as his identity is hidden.
Another Enigma used in Scream is a telephone. This is the main prop that is a narrative device. Ghost Face enjoys to call his victims and question them about horror movies before killing them. The question that is usually asked about this, is why does Ghost Face call his victims before killing them? Surely thats how they know when they're going to be attacked...
Questions that the audience are left guessing for Scream.....
Why does Ghost Face want to kill all these people?
Why is Sydney their main victim? What has she done to deserve it?
Does Ghost Face have a partner in crime?
Or s/he doing it all by him/herself?
How can a love of horror films turn you into a murderer?
Is Ghost Face male or female? Who would hold a grudge longer?
Saw's enigma is quite similar to Scream in the sense that one of the enigmas is a mask.
This questions the true identity of the antagonist....Who is he?
What does he have against all of these innocent people?
Other enigmas used in the Saw are shown through dialogue.
Why isn’t he doing the killing? – “He isn’t technically a murderer. He never killed anyone. He finds a way to get his victims to kill themselves”
Question that the audience are left asking themselves....
Does JigSaw enjoy watching the pain of other people?
What is Adam going to do?
Do Adam and Gordon play the game?
Kill Gordon or let Diana die?
Do they all survive?
Allocades/Reviews
Although all two out of the three trailers do not consist of either reviews or accolades, however the purpose of these features is to encourage the viewers to see the film, for example adding a high rating would suggest the film is worth seeing. They originate from film critic review companies such as the BBFC and IMDB.
There is one allocade in the Scream trailer, "From the first name in suspense", we know that this is an allocade is because it cuts straight to the next text which is Director Wes Craven.
