EXPECTATION

REALITY

1. Expectation is almost

never reality

2. Don't start by

building a table

3. Design for humans first

4. There are a lot of ways to build a table

Drop-leaf table

English pullout

Dutch pullout

5. Don't reinvent the wheel

6. The type of join

(or joint) matters

Avoid butt joints

Dowel joints are better

Dovetail joints are even better

7. Measure twice, cut once

8. Cut bigger and then

sand it down

9. Perfect fits should

scare you

10. Fix problems

as you see them

11. Use the right tools

12. You're going to get cut. Learn from it.

13. Don't stain good wood.

14. You need to think about what's missing

15. No one is a master.

The best never stop learning.

Do it yourself!
