World's Greatest Unsolved Mysteries

There are some mysteries that aren't meant to be solved, and these are often the most compelling ones in existence. For various reasons, no one has ever been able to buy an essay now and crack the world's greatest unsolved mysteries.

Voynich Manuscript

This book, dated back to the early 15th century, features detailed illustrations of unknown plants and is written in a completely unrecognizable language. The specific nature of the book, which contains very elaborate diagrams and drawings, seems to deal with alchemy and possible herbal remedies of the time, but the fact that historians are unable to decipher it is baffling to say the least.

Phaistos Disc

This bizarre disc was first discovered in 1908, and to date the engravings on it are still alien. Believed to be created sometime in the 2nd century B.C., translating the writings on this disc still proves impossible today.

Shugborough Inscription

This 18th century monument located in Staffordshire, England has puzzled historians for centuries. Engraved on the monument is a series of letters that spell out 'DOUOSVAVVM,' which means nothing to even the greatest minds in the world.

Tamam Shud Case

In Australia in 1948, a man was found at the beach. The puzzling aspect of this discovery was that the man was never able to be identified, and he had a note contained in a hidden pocket of his trousers that said simply 'Tamam Shud.' Translated, this means 'finished' or 'ended,' leading some to believe it was a suicide note, but why couldn't the man be identified, and why would he hide the note?

The Wow! Signal

In 1977, a volunteer for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence was scanning radio waves into deep space and got a response--an overwhelming one. The signal that lasted for 72 seconds was coming from 120 light-years away. It's never been come across since.

Zodiac Letters

The Zodiac Killer, an infamous serial killer that targeted victims in San Francisco during the 60s and 70s, was never found, but his letters remain. The Zodiac Killer supposedly left four encrypted letters for the police at the time, and to date, three of them remain uncracked.
