Your upcoming assignments in this course include a satement on positionality, three uses of specific research methods, and a final research project.
You will need to gather and cite extensive lists of peer-reviewed references for the final project, including an in-depth literature review that situates and summarizes the current scholarship around your topic and that justifies the relevance of your research question.
Research scholars in sociology and other disciplines often contend that citation management software is an indespensable tool when collecting references, resulting in significant time savings during the preparation and final production of the research report.

In the Sociology Honours (SOCI 409) course this semester, students will complete an independent research project consisting of a critical literature review of an area of sociological study...
Students will be expected to thoroughly familiarise themselves with the literature in their chosen area while developing a systematic method for doing so.... gaining a solid command of key findings, developing an original argument about the state of knowledge, understanding key debates in the field.
Students will be asked to model their papers on those found in Sociology Compass, an international journal publishing surveys of current research on specific topic areas in the discipline.

peer-reviewed article. Important clues: academic language, distinct sections, long bibliography of references, appears in a journal which can be verified as peer-reviewed.

Make sure to double check your generated citations - they are not always correct! Use those citation style guides to make sure all the required elements of the citation are present and correctly formatted.

Many library databases (for example: Sofia Discovery tool, EBSCO and ProQuest databases) as well as Google Scholar will provide you with formatted citations in the style of your choice that you can copy and paste into your bibliography, reference list or works cited list!
b) citation management tools
Sometimes also called bibliographic management tools, these allow you to:
- Download citations you find in library catalogues, databases, Google Scholar, and on the web.
- Store and organize citations, and prepare a bibliography or reference list automatically.
