Carol Vernallis
In 2004, Carol Vernallis published a book called 'Experiencing Music Video: Aesthetics and Cultural Context', explaining that the normal rules of continuity editing don't usually apply to music videos as they use far more edits.

Music Videos Elements:
- Camera movements
- Jump cuts
- Speed manipulation
- Base-tracks
- Breaking of 18-degree rule
- Cutting with lyrics
Narrative
Carol Vernallis suggests the narrative in music videos usually show a visual response to the lyrics. However, Vernallis also suggests that music videos don't always have a complete narrative. Instead, the music video would be disjointed, showing some visual responses to the lyrics but not all.
