What is an action thriller?

Action thriller is a type of genre in film, literature, tv programming etc. that uses suspense, tension and excitement as the main features.

They are generally fast paced and keep the audience guessing what is going to happen.

Mise-en-scene

Make up- Blood, dirt etc.

Props- knives, guns (weapons)

Costume- In quite a lot of action thrillers that I have looked at, I found that there if often a main (main character) in a suit and then the other characters with less power are generally dressed in a less formal way to show that they are inferior.

Lighting

The lighting in action thrillers varies throughout. It is quite common that they start off in day light and as the story goes on and gets more mysterious, so does the lighting. It often has a mixture of low key lighting and high key lighting. This helps to add thrill.

Sound

The sound in action thrillers also varies. There is often not a lot of talking and the main things that you can hear are the guns and cars driving etc.

By not having much talking, it means that the audience will not know what is going on and are more drawn in to watch the film.

Camera Angles and shots

Action thrillers have a range of shots and camera angles.

However there tend to be a lot of long/establishing shots in action thrillers.
