Introduction

• Green building rating systems:
  • buildings account for 20~40% of total energy use →CO2 →Climate Change
  • USGBC = US and Canada Green Building Councils
  • LEED = Leadership in Energy& Environmental Design
• "Prerequisites" of optional energy credits
• POEs = post-occupancy evaluation
• Are LEED buildings living up to expectations for energy saving?

Previous studies​

• The median EUI of the LEED buildings was 32% lower than the mean EUI in the CBECS database
• The median EUI by certification level suggested a trend in the expected direction:  Certified>Silver>Gold>Platinum

• The CBECS matched building was chosen to be as similar as possible to the LEED building in terms of activity type, size, age, and climate zone.
  • Activity type: H, M, L → H only, H+M, H+M+L

The only statistically significant regression was for EUI for all medium energy buildings. This effect is shown graphically in Fig. 3. The regressions for EUI for offices only, and for measured % savings relative to modelled baseline for all buildings were not statistically significant.

• We found no effect of the attainment of either or both credits on EUI, neither for all medium energy use buildings nor office buildings.

Discussion

• Cf Buildings key factors:
  • The occupancy hours differ from those in the initial design assumptions.
  • The final as-built building differs from the initial design.
  • Experimental technologies do not perform as predicted.
  • Plug loads are different than assumed.
  • The building has not been commissioned properly, and a knowledge transfer gap exists between the design team and end users.
    

Conclusions

• On average, LEED buildings use 18–39% less energy per floor area than their conventional counterparts.
• However, 28–35% of LEED buildings use more energy than their conventional counterparts.
• Further, the measured energy performance of LEED buildings has little correlation with certification level of the building, or the number of energy credits achieved by the building at design time.

  • 因為樣本數不同，LEED只有71筆、CBECS有5000筆以上（大數法則）。
• 思方：文中說LEED建築用電量較過去的用電少18-39%，除了建築外，想請問不同使用者的使用習慣會不會也會是滿重要的因素之一？
  • 會，而且分法還是很粗糙，從本研究還是看不出來活動度的關鍵影響。

• 祥恒：看起來LEED buildings的標章等級並不能表示其節能使用效率，那LEED buildings的評斷標準是什麼？是否包含了可能是建材本身的低碳足跡等其他因素？
• 昀軒：台灣好像還有另一套EEWH的系統標準，跟美國現行的LEED有何差異？
• 冠賢：LEED建築的空屋率有沒有可能比較低，或是對於使用者更有吸引力。如果是這樣的話，會不會影響這個研究的結果。
  • ​前人研究和本研究皆無空屋樣本，因為POEs表示使用中建築，但前人研究和本研究皆有樣本篩選。

身為（都市中重要）經濟體的大學校園/教育機構為何節電成效不佳？其中哪些問題是可以優化改善的？

Why me and why IPCS?

• 其他領域的發展無法解決/針對校園節電提出有效的應用，通常只針對該領域看見的問題點直接提出解方，而無法從更大的系統架構看待校園節電這件事。
• 機械的冷凍空調會造成無止盡的採購循環（校園無專款專項、無專業能力評估、採購商和維護商的衝突等）、電機的智慧電網和需求回饋解方會造成基載穩定問題（包含了台灣電網都屬台電、校園和電網尺度差異、降載風險等）、人文社會科學會落入道德式節能的陷阱。

這樣的研究設計，可以避免單一領域的盲點（社科批判但無法應用、或苦無技術執行）、自然數理（僅用數字說話、沒有回到「人」本身的使用脈絡），在此議題上透過質量化研究方法的並行，讓數理量化分析的產出得以和社科使用脈絡對話、橋接，並從系統的角度盤點推行困難，給出建議。

Study 1 results

• The open-ended responses to both questions were sorted by two independent coders into 22 categories
• Table 1 indicates that a large asymmetry of goals for self versus recommendations for Americans.
