Jerónimo's Lesson

Zero and first conditional

Zero Conditional

Factual or Real Conditional

*We use to talk about things that are real in the world.

*If this happens, this is the result (always).

*To talk about habits, routines, rules and instructions.

We use present simple in both CLAUSES.

If the sun sets, it gets dark.

If you leave milk out, it spoils.

If it's cold, light the fire.

Children can swim, if an adult is with them.

First Conditional

We use this to talk about possible and probable situations in the future and their consequences.

The POSSIBLE conditional

If + Present simple + , + will + infinitive

As soon as I get my results, I will phone you.

If she doesn't call, I'll be annoyed.

If you study hard, you will pass the exam.

If it doesn't rain tomorrow, we'll go to the beach.
